PRENATAL CLASSES OFFERED AT THE PEDIATRIC CENTER OF ROUND ROCK

Pediatric Center of Round Rock offers free newborn and prenatal classes every month for new or expectant parents. The classes are designed to make you feel more confident about the new arrival, and walk thru what to expect during the first few months of life. The classes include information on what to expect at delivery, information on breastfeeding, newborn screenings, immunizations and much more imporant information about caring for your infant.

For those of you having a newborn, this may be your first experience caring for a baby... If you already have children and don’t remember how to face the challenges a newborn presents, we are here to boost your confidence and help you gain knowledge about the topics we think are important during the newborn period.

Information covered during the Prenatal / Newborn Classes include:

• Your doctor’s evaluation of the newborn/ Apgar scores.
• Newborn screening test.
• Hepatitis vaccine.
• Breastfeeding: the first few days and after.
• Comparing breast milk to formula. What is the difference?
• Immunizations: When they start and why we need them.
• Is there a relationship between immunizations and autism or neurological disorders? What do we know?
• What about mercury in vaccines? Is it safe?
• The Internet as a source of information: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly…
• When is my baby going to sleep through the night?
• What medications do we need to have at home, before the baby is born?
• Antibiotics vs. no-antibiotics; that is a good question.
• Fever: When to panic.
• Appropriate feedings during the first year of life and beyond
