Dr. Marta Katalenas

Dr.  Katalenas of the Pediatric Center of Round RockA Board Certified Pediatrician, Dr. Katalenas graduated from the University of Oviedo Medical School, located in Northern Spain, in 1982. She worked as a General Practitioner in her hometown of Oviedo, and also performed Clinical Medical Research Projects at the University Medical School.

Dr. Katalenas completed her Pediatric Residency training at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, New Jersey, affiliated to Columbia University of New York. For one year she was part of the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Team at Columbia Presbyterian Children’s Hospital of New York, taking care of children with cancer and blood disorders.

While in New Jersey, she worked at Northwest Covenant Medical Center in Denville, as a Hospital Pediatrician, and at Hackensack University Medical Center, Tomorrow’s Children Institute, in the Hematology-Oncology floor and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Dr. Katalenas in the news:

In 1996, she moved to Round Rock, founding the Pediatric Center of Round Rock, a general pediatrics practice, where she provides care for children from newborns to age 18. At the practice, she oversees a nutrition management program designed to help children and families make the lifestyle changes necessary to promote and maintain health. In addition, she provides care for newborns at the Round Rock Hospital and North Austin Medical Center. She has served as Chairman of Pediatrics at Round Rock Medical Center for three years, most recently in 2008. She is Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics for the University of Texas Medical Branch, a supervising physician for the Resident Program for UT Southwestern Medical School and a Clinical Instructor for the University of Texas School of Nursing.

Dr. Katalenas regularly attends educational seminars and is committed to providing the most advanced medical care to her patients. Her areas of interest in Pediatrics include the care of newborns, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, child and adolescent behavior and pediatric nutrition. She serves as a spokesperson for the American Heart Association in child/adolescent obesity issues.

Dr. Katalenas is a member of the Travis County Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association, the European Pediatric Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Association. She served as a volunteer at the Round Rock Health Clinic, while collaborating as a Board Member, and is part of the Medical Mission Team at St. Williams Catholic Church. She served on the Advisory Committee for Easter Seals of Texas and was a Site Based Advisory Member for Berkman Elementary School in Round Rock. She has been a member of Rotary International since 2004.

Married for 25 years, Dr. Katalenas has 3 children. She and her husband enjoy reading, history, travel and gourmet cooking.


Dr. Jenny Jacomides

Dr. Jacomides  of the Pediatric Center of Round Rock

Dr. Jenny Jacomides, a Board Certified pediatrician, attended the University of Texas at Austin. She then finished Medical School at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Dr. Jacomides completed her pediatric residency at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas.

Following residency, Dr. Jacomides joined the Southwestern Medical School Faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics. She taught medical students and residents while working in Pediatric Urgent Care and as a Pediatric Hospitalist. She also oversaw newborn care at the Parkland Memorial hospital newborn nursery.

In 2006, Dr. Jacomides moved to Austin with her family. She enjoys living in the Hill Country and taking care of patients in private practice. Her husband, Dr. Lucas Jacomides, is an urologist in the Round Rock area.

In her personal time, Dr. Jacomides enjoys spending time with her children. She has a 3 year-old daughter and a one-year-old son. She also enjoys art, photography and travel.


Dr. Kelly Kovaric

Dr. Kelly  KovaricDr. Kelly Kovaric, a Board-Certified Pediatrician, graduated summa cum laude from Texas A&M and then began her career in kids as a middle school language arts and drama teacher here in Austin. She soon discovered her true calling as a pediatrician and entered medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. There she helped publish a paper on preterm labor in the journal of Molecular Endocrinology and served as President of the Pediatric Interest Group. She went on to complete her internship and residency at Children.s Medical Center Dallas where she later served as a pediatric hospitalist upon completion of residency.

Dr. Kovaric is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Texas Medical Association, and Travis County Medical Society. Her career interests include international adoption, congenital heart disease, and premature infants.

Dr. Kovaric is thrilled to be back in Austin with her husband and two sons (Andrew and Aiden, a former preemie.) She enjoys theater, running, and medical missions.


Nurse Practitioner, Maureen Havrilla

Maureen HavrillaMaureen Havrilla has taken care of children and their families her entire nursing career. Beginning in Pennsylvania, she obtained her undergraduate degree from Geisinger Medical Center School of Nursing and Lebanon Valley College, and began her career in the newborn intensive care unit at Hershey Medical Center, yes, the land of Hershey chocolate.

Maureen received her Masters in Nursing and PNP from Saint Louis University. She has also worked in Charlotte NC and has taken care of children in newborn nursery, general pediatrics, pediatric intensive care, homecare, and as a middle school nurse.

Austin became home in 1992. Maureen and her husband of 27 years have two almost grown children, Sean and Casey, and two furry children, Jonah and Bailey. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, attending musicals, and spending time with her family. She is very involved in her church, as a leader, in music, and as a youth sponsor. Maureen is excited to be working with
the families of Pediatric Center of Round Rock. Her special interest areas are asthma, and newborns and first time parents.


Nurse Practitioner, Taskina Masud

Taskina MasudTaskina Masud is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner since 2003, who finished her training at Oregon Health Sciences University. She received her BSN from Crieghton University, and a BS in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from UCLA. She has a varied heath care back ground and knew she would pursue this field since the age of 3. Before working as a PNP, she was doing genetic research on Macular degeneration, Alzheimer’s and then was a recovery room RN for 6 years.

Taskina grew up in California, and lived in Oregon for 10 years before moving to Austin in 2007. She has been married for 13 years and has a 7 year old daughter. Taskina enjoys hiking, reading, festivals, activities with her daughter and her little patients (who are her borrowed children).
